Activities are planned to support the 3 Prime areas of Learning and Development:
- Communication and Language (Listening and Attention, Understanding and Speaking)
- Physical Development (Moving and Handling, Health and Self-care)
- Personal Social and Emotional Development (Making relationships, Self confidence and Self awareness, Managing feelings and behaviour)
and the 4 Specific areas:
- Literacy (Reading, Writing)
- Mathematics (Numbers, Shape, space and measures)
- Understanding the World (People and Communities, The world, Technology)
- Expressive Arts and Design (Exploring and using media and materials, Being imaginative)
All children are observed, assessed and monitored to ensure progression within each of these areas, using age related developmental statements which are recorded on a tracking system each term.
Through play in a secure but challenging environment with effective adult support, children can:
■■ explore, develop and represent learning experiences that help them to make sense of the world;
■■ practise and build up ideas, concepts and skills;
■■ learn how to understand the need for rules;
■■ take risks and make mistakes;
■■ think creatively and imaginatively;
■■ communicate with others as they investigate or solve problems.
Our activities provide all of these elements.
